A race to remember, to bear witness, to act. On Sunday 18 May, Florence hosts the eighth edition of Corri per Michela, a non-competitive event created to keep the memory of Michela Noli alive and renew the commitment against gender violence. An event that combines sport, civil participation and concrete support for those facing situations of domestic and relational violence.

The initiative will be held in Quartiere 4, with departure and arrival at the Giardino Michela Noli in via Torcicoda. Participants will be welcomed from 8:30, while the official start will be at 9:30. Two routes are planned: a 7 km run and a 5 km recreational-motor walk, designed for families and people of all ages.

Registration requires a contribution of 10 euros for the non-competitive race (with a discounted price of €8.00 for Uisp members) and 8 euros for walkers: all proceeds will be donated to Artemisia, a center active in the area in welcoming and supporting women, girls and boys who have experienced violence. Furthermore, thanks to the support of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, the first male and first female runners in the race will receive a return economy class ticket to Amsterdam.

You can register in advance by sending an email to info@gsletorrifirenze.it by 10 pm on Friday 16 May, or directly on site on the day of the event, up to half an hour before departure. More information is available on the website www.corripermichela.it

Created as part of the “Per Michela” project, active since 2017, the event represents a central moment in a program of activities that take place throughout the year: meetings, workshops and awareness-raising courses to promote a culture of respect and female autonomy.

“Corri per Michela represents a moment of authentic participation and civic sharing, a simple but powerful gesture – comments Toscana Aeroporti –. It is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to a culture of respect and to support those who work every day against violence against women. We believe that initiatives like this can contribute to strengthening collective awareness and promoting concrete change in society.”

The event is promoted by the Gruppo Sportivo Le Torri, with the support of UISP Firenze, and realized in collaboration with Toscana Aeroporti, Regione Toscana, Comune di Firenze and Quartiere 4.

A heartfelt thanks goes to all the partners who have supported this initiative for years: Thales, Heaven avena, Comaco Alimentare, McDonald’s, La Fama pasticceria, and I Miei Scatti di Corsa, as well as Artemisia, the beating heart of the project.
