Toscana Aeroporti has initiated and implemented numerous concrete projects to promote environmental, social and cultural sustainability. Some of these are long-term, ongoing commitments while others are established best practices that are being expanded or replicated.

We have embarked on a structured path to reduce the carbon footprint of our airports.

 The ACA – Airport Carbon Accreditation – programme has already achieved level 2 which requires precise emissions measurement, a targeted reduction plan, and active stakeholder engagement.

 This is an ongoing commitment that is part of the decarbonisation path that we have undertaken.

We have supported Artemisia, the anti-violence centre, with a project dedicated to the memory of our colleague, a victim of femicide.

 The project is structured along two guidelines:

  • company training on issues related to gender violence;
  • direct economic support for women and children hosted in the centre.

 A commitment that goes beyond the emergency and builds awareness and genuine support.

We have created dedicated areas for assembling and disassembling bicycles for passengers travelling with their own bikes.

 The space is fitted out with racks and can also be accessed by employees and airport operators who commute by bike.

 A project that encourages more sustainable and people-friendly mobility.

With our voluntary work programme, we incentivize our employees to participate in charitable activities by providing paid hours for personal initiatives with voluntary organisations.

This will be followed up by the promotion of collective actions directly organised by Toscana Aeroporti in partnership with regional charities.

We are creating a more inclusive and accessible tourism experience by engaging local institutions, associations and stakeholders.

 The project is aimed at creating an authentic ‘accessibility chain’ by integrating information services, support, transport and hospitality.

 The service is currently up and running in the Florence area and we are working on extending it to Pisa as well.

We have introduced smart bins within the airport terminals and offices that can automatically recognise the type of waste and direct it to the correct container.

 This system significantly improves waste separation and reduces errors when using waste bins.

The project also includes the revamping of the ecological areas, which will be followed up by the installation of compactors to optimise the logistics of waste collection and reduce the associated CO₂ emissions.
